On Saturday 22nd September, nine cadets from 1227 Sidcup squadron went to Maidstone Leisure Centre to represent the squadron in the Kent Wing swimming competition. The races were split by gender and age. The junior under sixteen category had to swim two lengths for their races, and the senior team which consisted of cadets aged over sixteen had to swim four. Each category included five races which were butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley.
Cadets from 1227 Squadron participated in the majority of the events, all displaying a valiant effort. Despite having some cadets coming first in heats, unfortunately no one was successful enough to qualify for the regional competition, nor be awarded any medals. However, everyone gave it their all, and decided that it’s not the winning but the taking part that counts. All cadets represented our squadron with pride, and I would like to thank all of the staff who made this enjoyable event possible.
