On Sunday 15th July 2012, nine cadets from our squadron, 1227 Sidcup, went to the Battle of Britain memorial parade in Capel le Ferne in Folkestone. Some of us were working in the V.I.P tent, and others of us were participating in the parade; I was part of the parade.
We all met at Bexleyheath squadron at 0800hrs on Sunday morning and travelled in the minibus together. Once we arrived, we parked up and went for a briefing at which we were told the timings and expectations for the day. We had a practice run through of the parade, and were then all given a lunch token which entitled us to a free lunch, can of drink and chocolate bar which was welcomed by all with a long parade ahead of us!
Once we had all eaten, we met back up ready for the parade to begin. After marching for a short while, all of the Air Cadets, along with the veterans were treated to speeches by a variety of people, performances by the band and the laying of reefs at the memorial- it was a truly memorable event. Once the parade had finished, we were all very tired but had thoroughly enjoyed the day and I would like to thank all of the staff who made the day possible and so enjoyable.
